Credit Card Funding

Credit Card Funding -

For the newbies, Credit Card Funding in this case refers to opening a bank account - checking, savings or CDs with a Credit card and incurring no cash advance fees.

Benefits  -

Miles/points etc - For those collecting miles or points the obvious benefit is to increase the amount of your miles or points.

Cash - Few people go to great lengths to open an account for a few hundred dollars that come with stringent requirements. This in my opinion is a great option to get cash. For e.g. a 25K funding with a Schwab Card will yield 500 dollars better than any deals you would find for opening a banks account.

Spend Thresholds - To me this is the best use of opening an account with Credit Card funding. Many cards come with Spend Threshold -

e.g. 15K bonus for new cards with 15K spend for SPG Card. Also 30K spend on AMEX SPG card yields gold membership.

Another example - Life Time gold on AA for accruing 1 Million miles.

The one I am working towards right now is 30K spend on a BA card that nets a companion ticket on BA metal for any class (plus another 100K miles to get the business class tic to Asia). So if you redeems 200K miles to Asia for Business class travel you get another companion ticket for the same class. The only drawback are the fees associated with Flying BA metal. The tic I looked at has 1200 in fees for Business class travel to Asia. But still its a great deal - for  2500  dollars, 200K BA miles and 30K in BA card spend you get 2 business class tics to Asia - A total purchase value of ~10K.
